ORTHODONTIC TREATMENTS

Invisalign

When it comes to teeth, we can set things straight

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that involves wearing custom-made, transparent aligners that are used to move and properly straighten the teeth, resulting in a flawless smile. Invisalign aligners do not have any brackets or metal wires like conventional braces.

The aligners are computer-generated as per the mold of every patient’s teeth and often remain unnoticed as they are transparent. While brushing or eating food, you should remove the clear aligners and put them back the other time.

What Orthodontic Issues Can Invisalign Fix?

Malocclusion is the dental term for misaligned teeth that can come in nine different types:
Braces are necessary when one faces one or more of the following issues:-

Overcrowding: Overcrowding is among the most common causes of adults seeking orthodontic treatment. It is caused because of the lacking space in your mouth.
Spacing: Spacing is caused due to small teeth, prolonged thumb sucking, missing teeth, and tongue thrusting. This issue occurs between two or more teeth, leading to overcrowding and impacting a child’s permanent teeth eruption process.
Open Bite: When your lower and upper front teeth don’t overlap, it causes an opening inside the mouth. This is called an open bite.
Overjet: In overjet, your top teeth protrude from your bottom teeth, resulting in chewing and speaking difficulties.
Overbite: Overlapping on lower teeth to some extent is normal, but when this takes an abnormal form, it causes overbite.
Underbite: An underbite which is also known as anterior crossbite occurs when your lower front teeth protrude far from your upper front teeth.
Crossbite: A crossbite can occur on either side of your jaw, front, or back teeth. When you suffer from a crossbite, your upper teeth bite inside your lower teeth.
Diastema: Generally known as gapping teeth, a diastema is a dental condition in which a space occurs between two adjacent teeth. These teeth are most commonly the front two teeth.
Missing Tooth: A missing tooth, also called hypodontia, is caused by improper teeth development or trauma.

Pros and Cons Of Invisalign

Pros

Cons

What’s involved with wearing them?

The first step in the process involves a visit to an orthodontist, who will create a 3-D image of your mouth and jaw. They’ll use this image to put together a plan for moving your teeth into their proper place.

During the Procedure

The dentist will then use that plan to create a series of customized plastic aligners. These aligners will apply pressure to your teeth, gradually shifting them and moving them into the desired places.

Depending on your orthodontist’s instructions, you’ll switch out one set of aligners for a new set about once every week or two. Typically, you’ll need to wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day.

What Can I Expect After Invisalign Braces?

Your teeth are partly held in place by the surrounding jawbone. During Invisalign treatment, your jawbone would have softened or disappeared (a process called resorption) so teeth could move into their final positions. Once you stop wearing Invisalign, you need to wear orthodontic retainers so your teeth are held in place while new bone is deposited. It takes about 9 to 12 months for your body to build up enough bone to stabilize teeth.

Taking care after the procedure

For Invisalign to work effectively, it’s important to wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day.
The only time you’re supposed to remove the aligners is when you’re:

You need to be careful when cleaning your aligners. If you use very hot water, it could warp the plastic. This can alter the fit, and affect your progress and the effectiveness of the aligners.
